The Merck Foundation to Support STEM & Health Science Extended Learning Academy

We are pleased to announce that The Merck Foundation– Neighbor of Choice Community Grants program- has awarded On the Road Collaborative with a one year grant in the amount of $23,016 to lead a new STEM & Health Science Extended Learning Academy for Middle School Youth in Harrisonburg during the 2015-2016 school year.

The Academy will consist of a network of STEM & Health Science after-school learning projects that connects upwards of 144 Harrisonburg middle school youth from across the city, especially those underrepresented in these respective careers, with meaningful learning opportunities to build their skills, interest and understanding of future careers in Computer Science, Health Science & Science Exploration.

Each after school learning project will be led by both an Academy teacher (either a certified school-day teacher or youth development professional) AND a Community Teacher, who is a volunteer local professional, serving as a career expert. The grant partnership is designed for Merck employees, along with other STEM, Health Science & Science professionals from the community, to serve as Community Teachers. This unique partnership of educator and professional expert in the classroom with youth leads to a powerful learning experience.

Stay tuned for more details in the coming months….!
